About Our Practice
At AdventHealth Medical Group Midwifery and OB/GYN at Castle Rock, our experienced and compassionate team provides a full range of obstetrics and gynecology services.
Health is often a winding road with expected and unexpected changes. But one thing stays consistent: our certified nurse midwives' focus on our patients.
The belief that birth is a normal physiologic event is the foundation of midwifery. We support mothers, birthing people and babies to ensure optimal outcomes and experiences. Midwives rely on education, shared decision-making and family support to ensure everyone feels valued, heard and confident in their care.
Our practice is guided by evidence-based research and extensive education, utilizing intervention only where indicated. We understand that birth is a transformative experience. We seek to prioritize your emotional and physical well-being during this time, recognizing the trust you have placed in us to care for you and your family.

Q:Question: What is a certified nurse midwife?
A:Answer:Midwifery as practiced by certified nurse midwives (CNMs), encompasses care during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period, as well as sexual and reproductive health; gynecologic health; peri and postmenopausal care and family planning services, including preconception care.
Midwives also provide primary care beginning in adolescence through every age and stage of life. They care for anyone seeking midwifery care, including all gender identities and sexual orientations.
Midwives provide initial and ongoing comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and treatment. They conduct physical examinations; independently prescribe medications; admit, manage and discharge patients; order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests; and order medical devices, durable medical equipment and home health services.
CNMs are educated in graduate-level midwifery programs accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME).
To receive the CNM designation, they must pass a national certification exam administered by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).
Midwifery care includes health promotion, disease prevention, risk assessment and management and individualized wellness education and counseling. These services are provided in partnership with individuals and families in diverse settings like clinics, private offices, telehealth and other methods of remote care delivery, community and public health systems, homes, hospitals and birth centers.

Q:Question: What is the spectrum of care nurse midwives provide?
A:Answer:It’s common for people to think that nurse midwives only deliver babies. But a big and important part of a nurse midwife’s care is annual and ongoing well-woman care. During these visits, you and your midwife can talk about anything that’s important to your health at your age, life stage and health status.
Your care plan with a midwife can include birth control consultations, well-woman visits, breast concerns, pelvic pain, menstrual cycle issues, STD screenings, lifestyle, nutrition and even referral for alternative modalities outside of Western medicine, like massage or acupuncture.
-
Q:Question: What is whole-person care?
A:Answer:Using a holistic approach to whole health in body, mind and spirit, our AdventHealth nurse midwives focus on helping patients thrive. Midwives promote patient autonomy and involvement in their own care decisions, helping women understand how their body is working, how and why it’s changing, and how they can live well and experience life to the fullest. Because of this comprehensive, whole-person approach, nurse midwife visits can be a little longer than traditional OB/GYN appointments.
-
Q:Question: How do midwives collaborate with OB/GYNs?
A:Answer:Our nurse midwives maintain a collaborative and positive working team culture between other nurses and our OB/GYN physicians. We all work closely with nurses and patients to promote a vaginal delivery when it’s safe and considered the best choice for the patient. This includes movements to help the baby rotate, counterpressure and even alternative modalities like essential oils and birthing balls to get out of the traditional mold of being stuck in bed to labor.
For women with high-risk pregnancies, our midwives collaborate with physicians. We are trained and equipped to do the first line of care, even if high-risk, and refer or collaborate when needed. In pregnancy, this can be multiple births or a chronic health condition. In nonpregnant individuals, it could be a condition like fibroids or menstrual problems.
