AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach is proud to welcome distinguished hematologist and oncologist Dr. Andrea Katz to the hospital’s cancer team. She has been caring for patients in Florida for a decade and joins AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach as part of the hospital’s new comprehensive oncology program.
A board-certified hematologist and oncologist, Katz specializes in the diagnosis of blood disorders and cancers; treatments and transfusions for blood disorders; planning and treatment for cancer; and chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments.
As a member of the AdventHealth Medical Group, Katz joins a team of nearly 400 employed physicians and advanced practitioners representing 30 different medical specialties. With 70 practice locations across Flagler, North Lake, South Sumter and Volusia counties, AdventHealth Medical Group clinicians collectively cared for more than one million patient visits in 2023.
“As a national expert in blood disorders and cancers, Dr. Katz has extensive research experience and is the author of numerous publications and presentations,” said Dr. Dennis Hernandez, president, and CEO of AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach. “She is a formidable addition to our oncology program and her decision to join the AdventHealth family speaks volumes about the reputation our team has built for exceptional care.”
From 2017 to 2023, Katz treated patients at 21st Century Oncology in Jupiter, Florida, and, before that, at The Cleveland Clinic in West Palm Beach.
Katz is a multi-year recipient of Florida Top Doctors Hematology/Oncology recognition and was named a Top Doctor Hematology/Oncology by Palm Beach Illustrated.
She earned her medical degree from Pennsylvania State College of Medicine. She completed her residency in internal medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, and a fellowship in hematology/oncology at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.

“I am absolutely honored to join the distinguished team of clinicians at AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach,” said Katz. “Treating complex cancer cases requires a thoughtful multidisciplinary approach and I am excited to be part of a team that prioritizes whole-person care. Together, we will further build southeast Volusia County’s oncology program and make a positive impact on the community.”
In Nov. 2023, all cancer treatments at AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach transitioned to be provided on-site by AdventHealth clinicians. The program now offers a full spectrum of cancer care – from radiation to chemotherapy – all provided locally by clinicians who are part of the nationally recognized AdventHealth Cancer Institute.
“We have been working to assemble the best team of specialists in New Smyrna Beach to support patients through every aspect of their cancer journey, from screening to survivorship,” added Hernandez. “We are proud to offer a collaborative and compassionate approach for early diagnosis, intervention, and prevention that’s close to home for our residents.”
Katz cares for patients at AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach, 401 Palmetto Street, New Smyrna Beach, and can be reached at
