A new imaging technology is now available at AdventHealth Waterman, enhancing both patient care and diagnostic precision.
The Siemens SOMATOM Force, a state-of-the-art computed tomography (CT) scanner, delivers faster, clearer scans with less radiation than previously possible.
“As one of the first AdventHealth facilities to install the Siemens SOMATOM Force, AdventHealth Waterman is at the forefront of medical imaging,” said Rick Golab, AdventHealth Waterman director of imaging services. “This technology is a dramatic leap forward as it not only improves diagnostic accuracy, but it also enhances the patient's experience, benefiting more people in our community.
Clearer images, less radiation
For years, doctors have sought to improve CT imaging quality while reducing the radiation needed for clear images.
The Siemens SOMATOM Force achieves this with unprecedented power, making it possible to scan at lower energy levels, improving the visibility of contrast dyes and reducing the amount of dye needed. This is particularly important for patients with kidney problems or those sensitive to contrast agents.
Coronary Computed Tomographic Angiography (CCTA) scans of the heart are now of the highest quality available with CT technology. This greatly improves diagnosis capabilities for cardiac patients in our community.
Designed for comfort and accessibility
With one of the industry’s most versatile scanning modes, the Siemens SOMATOM Force is built with patients in mind.
It is more spacious and can accommodate patients up to 660 pounds, helping more patients access high-quality imaging.
And for patients who struggle with holding their breath during scans – like those with lung or heart conditions – the system’s lightning-fast speed makes all the difference. In just one second, it can capture a clear image of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis, no breath-holding required.
Improving heart and cancer care
This technology is particularly groundbreaking for heart and lung health.
In just 66 milliseconds, CT technology can take a picture of the heart, ensuring clear visibility even during rapid heartbeats. And for lung screenings, it uses a special filter to provide ultra-clear images, helping detect tumors early when they are more easily treated.
For cancer patients, follow-up scans with this technology can now be done with lower radiation doses, improving long-term safety during treatment and recovery.
“At AdventHealth Waterman, we’re always looking for ways to give our patients the best care with the lowest risk,” said Golab. “This new technology enables us to do just that. We can get the detailed images we need to diagnose faster, treat patients more effectively, and reduce discomfort and risk – all of which makes a real difference in people’s lives.”
