DELAND, Fla., April 1, 2019 – While celebrating National Doctors’ Day, AdventHealth DeLand unveiled a Legacy Wall in the hospital lobby on March 25.
The Legacy Wall displays stories about the hospital’s rich history, current and former physicians and employees, as well as videos, educational games and upcoming hospital events.
“Our new Legacy Wall celebrates the hospital's history, but also looks ahead to the future,” said Lorenzo Brown, AdventHealth DeLand CEO. “It tells our story and highlights many of the people who helped create it.”
The Legacy Wall was made possible from generous contributions from emergency medicine physician AdventHealth DeLand chief of staff Dr. Tracy Weiner, as well as the AdventHealth DeLand Foundation and medical staff.
“This hospital was founded with the generosity of the Scarlett family donation of land and I believe ‘community spirit’ has been the driving force within this hospital since its opening in March 1962. I have witnessed how this community watches out for each other - true neighbors caring for the wellbeing of each other,” Weiner said. “This Legacy Wall embodies the spirit of our hospital and our dedication to the patients and families we serve, whether through years of patient care and service, philanthropic efforts, or volunteer hours given back.”
Over 150 guests mingled and enjoyed food and refreshments from Venue 142, Milton’s Foods and Morrison Healthcare. Attendees flew-in from all over the country for this special occasion, including 12 former chiefs of staff.
During the celebration, guests made artwork for the Lacey Family/Spring Hill Boys and Girls Club in DeLand.
Red carnations, the national flower of National Doctors Day, were handed out, and pictures and stories were captured to add to scrapbooks chronicling the event to later showcase on the wall. Guests also wrote personalized notes to their favorite doctors thanking them for their work.
"The Legacy Wall is a remarkable addition to the hospital,” said Brown. “It is a great communication tool to help visually show our history and future. It also is a reminder of how one vision of just a few is now the vision of so many.”
Event sponsors included Express Printing, Greg Hunter, Speedway Custom Photo Lab, The Logo Store, Joe Hearn Events, EMPros and Dr. Tracy Weiner.
