Our mission is to train osteopathic Family Physicians that excel in their medical knowledge, clinical practice, professionalism, commitment to life-long learning, and service and leadership in their communities. We promote this development in an environment grounded in our osteopathic heritage, caring for the mind-body-sprint and promoting whole person and whole family care. Founded in the osteopathic tradition, the program integrates the principles of continuity, whole person, and family care, while maintaining a guided philosophy of caring for the mind-body-spirit with attention to its relation to health. AdventHealth Orlando at East Orlando Campus:

Core hospital and the inpatient teaching site for the family medicine program

296 inpatient beds and 80 ED beds (the busiest in the system)

Residents manage their own patients on the family medicine service under the supervision of core faculty

Rotations and interaction with medical and surgical specialists who have a dedicated teaching relationship with our residency program.

Academic Time: We teach maximization of the body's inherent anatomic and physiologic capabilities to restore and maintain health. We teach that spiritual, emotional, and mental well-being are just as important as physical health.

Dedicated Wednesday afternoon didactics

* Evidence based didactics are conducted by core faculty and invited guest speakers

* Special sessions including behavioral health, wellness, and geriatrics
Call: Night Float coverage for the family medicine inpatient service

Weekends covered by a rotating call system
Opportunities: Fully funded international mission trips

Work with local underserved populations through the Community Medicine Clinic

Physicians game coverage for at home games for the Orlando Solar Bears and local high school sports

NMM track for PGY2s and 3s with a special interest in osteopathic manipulation and plans to pursue an ONMM3 residency

Eligibility: What You'll Need

The program participates in the ACGME match through the National Residency Match Program (NRMP). Applications will only be accepted through the match process.

Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) candidates must meet the following criteria:

Graduation from an American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (AOACOCA) Accredited College of Medicine within the past five years.

Passed Part I and Part II (CE and PE) of the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX)

Application through ERAS

Personal Interview with Program Director

Doctors of Medicine (MD) candidates must meet the following criteria:

1. Graduation from a medical school in the United States or Canada within the past five years, accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)

a) If not a graduate of the above, is Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG certified) and graduated within the past five years.

2. 200 hours of verified hours of training in Osteopathic Principles and Practice such as:

a) Participation in a formal osteopathic introductory course such as those taught through the American Academy of Osteopathy

b) Attendance to multiple osteopathic focused conferences such as the American Academy of Osteopathy Annual Convocation

3. A letter of recommendation from a DO with whom they have rotated that explains how the applicant has demonstrated OPP

4. A personal statement explaining why they want to complete an Osteopathically Recognized program

5. Passed Part I and Part II (CK and CS) of the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE)

6. Application through ERAS

7. Personal Interview with Program Director

Benefits: CME Allowance
PGY-1 residents receive a 5-day leave to attend conferences and expenses reimbursed up to $250.
PGY-2 residents receive a 5-day leave to attend conferences and expenses reimbursed up to $800.
PGY-3 residents receive a 5-day leave to attend conferences and expenses reimbursed up to $1300.
CME allowance can be used for board prep courses, conference and electronic devices.
Professional Fees
Florida State Medical License and DEA license fees. The cost of certification classes such as ACLS, PALS, BLS, NRP are covered as necessary for meeting program requirements.

Research Activity is an Essential Part of Training

As one of the key components in ACGME program requirements, research activity is an essential part of training. In the era of evidence-based medicine, we strongly believe at AdventHealth Orlando that residents should develop critical thinking skills to evaluate the publications and apply new knowledge in their clinical practice. Our program has a well-developed infrastructure and fostering culture to support residents who are interested in pursuing basic research, clinical research, or quality improvement/patient safety projects. By promoting research and scholarly activities, our ultimate goal is to train the next generation of physicians with strengths in both clinical and academic medicine.
