Facilities
The AdventHealth Orlando system is comprised of 8 hospital campuses and 5 free-standing outpatient imaging facilities across the Orlando metro area. Radiology residents will be centralized on the Orlando campus but read exams done from all campuses and outpatient facilities via a single, integrated PACS, HIS/EMR, and Power Scribe 360 voice recognition dictation system. Additionally, residents will have the ability to read exams from 5 other AdventHealth hospitals and 8 outpatient facilities across the east coast of Florida.
AdventHealth has many strong surgical and medical sub-specialty departments to significantly enhance your educational experience, including the Walt Disney Children's Hospital, the AdventHealth Cancer Center, and an entire tower dedicated to Women's health.
Equipment
Of our 51 CT scanners, 5 are 256 slice, 9 are 128 slice, and 21 are 64-detector row scanners. Of these units, 3 have CT fluoroscopy for intervention. We have 35 MRI scanners including 12 3T units, one of which is an intraoperative unit. In the Orlando interventional radiology department there are 4 dedicated angiography suites with 3 bi-plane and 1 single-plane units. Mammographic services, including breast tomosynthesis, are offered across various campuses, with centralized resident education in digital mammography provided at the AdventHealth Imaging Princeton campus. Women's services include 2 automated breast ultrasound units for dense breast studies. Nuclear medicine images are acquired at all sites, and there are 2 PET/CT centers and a SPECT-CT unit within the AdventHealth system. Across all campuses there are multiple radiographic, fluoroscopic, and sonographic units with advanced technology such as 3D and 4D imaging.
Faculty
Our faculty is eager to teach you! Our attending radiologists have trained in numerous geographic locations, and their prestigious radiology residency and fellowship training includes Mayo Clinic, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Duke, Stanford, and many more. In addition, many of our core faculty members have taught at other radiology programs prior to arriving at AdventHealth, with others having served as residency or fellowship directors themselves.
Current Residents
Curriculum
There are 13 blocks in each academic year; each block is 4 weeks in length. The above is a representative of the rotations for each year of training.
One block during PGY-4 year is reserved for AIRP conference attendance.
With the exception of one required Emergency/Call rotation all rotations during PGY-5 year are elective and may be customized to the residents subspecialty interests as long as it does not interfere with rotation schedule of other resident class requirements.

Conferences
Our program takes a multi-disciplinary approach to learning, such as our monthly conference with the Department of Surgery to learn from each other in an effort to continue refining the interpretive skills of the resident and increasing the value of their reports to referring clinicians.
We hold conferences daily at noon Monday-Friday as well as morning Physics conference on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Most lectures are recorded and made available for viewing by residents unable to attend conference or for future reference by residents and attendees. Conference types include the following:
- Didactic Lectures:
-
Didactic lectures will be provided by subspecialized faculty members on a 24 month cycle. Subspecialties include Body Imaging (GI/GU), Cardiothoracic, Emergency Imaging, Interventional Radiology, Musculoskeletal, Neuroradiology, Nuclear Medicine/PET, Pediatric Imaging, Ultrasound, and Women's Imaging.
- Case Conference
-
Interesting and educational cases will be presented by residents and subspecialized faculty followed by interactive discussions on findings, differential diagnoses, and recommendations.
- Medical Physics
-
Formal instruction in medical physics will be provided by dedicated, in-house medical physicist twice a week during morning lectures. Didactic training will include, but is not limited to, radiologic and nuclear medicine physics, radiation biology and protection, I-131 therapy requirements, as well as radiation and MRI safety. Additionally, residents will learn:
- Guidelines and effective communication concerning imaging appropriateness and safety issues
- Enhancement of patient safety and improvement of patient care quality through quality improvement projects
- Assessment, development and implementation imaging guidelines
- Protocol selection and optimizations of images
- Participation in identifying system errors through quality assessment projects and then implementing potential system solutions
- Journal Club
-
Once a month, residents, along side an attending radiologist, will take turns presenting a recently published journal article of their choosing followed by a critical evaluation via interactive discussion.
- Grand Rounds
-
Several times each academic year we host visiting radiology professors from across the country to present conferences on topics specific to their field. It is a great opportunity for our residents to learn from and interact with some of the greatest minds radiology has to offer.
- Jeopardy and Family Feud
-
Frequently, attending radiologists will present cases in a Jeopardy or Family Feud style format. Residents will split into teams with equal class representation and compete for the greatest prizes outside of a Starbucks gift card; family honor, peer recognition, and shame avoidance.

Program Information
- Research
-
As one of the key components of the ACGME’s common program requirements, research activity is an essential part of training. In the era of evidence-based medicine, at AdventHealth Orlando we strongly believe that residents should develop critical thinking skills to evaluate the publications and apply new knowledge in their clinical practice. Our program has a well-developed infrastructure and established culture for research, one that fosters and supports residents who are interested in pursuing basic research, clinical research, or quality improvement/patient safety projects. By promoting research and scholarly activities, our ultimate goal is to train the next generation of physician scientists with strengths in both clinical and academic medicine.
Residents and faculty involved in required GME scholarly activities receive guidance from the Center for Academic Research Excellence (CARE) through the Clinical Academic Research team, comprised of an Academic Research Mentor, a Project Coordinator, and a Regulatory Coordinator. In addition, the center includes a group of biostatisticians, a health economist, and a medical editor. The CARE assists residents and faculty with all types of scholarly activities (case studies, QI projects and research studies), from study design and protocol development, to data analysis and poster, presentation or manuscript preparation.
We are a very productive residency program in terms of research and are continuously publishing and investigating research through a wide breadth of topics and styles. Our residency is less than 10 years old, however we have already published and presented hundreds of research projects.

Radiology Residency Specific Benefits
STATdx Account - Subscription unlimited access to educational content from STATdx is provided at no cost for every resident
RadPrimer Account - Residents will have individual RadPrimer accounts provided at no cost which provides dedicated radiology subspecialty learning modules as well as thousands of radiology review questions
Moonlighting - Residents in good academic standing will have the opportunity to moonlight at the start of their second year (PGY-3). Moonlighting consists of "contrast coverage" at one of our many outpatient AdventHealth Imaging centers following work hours during the week and on weekends. Contrast simulation training will help residents train for any potential contrast reactions that may be encountered.
AIRP - The American Institute of Radiologic Pathology (AIRP) is a 4-week course organized by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Every year thousands of radiology residents from around the country participate in this unique course held in Silver Springs, MD. According to the ACR, this course aims to "provide radiologic pathologic correlation based on the need for both radiology residents and practicing radiologists to understand how the underlying pathology of a lesion relates to its imaging appearance. More information regarding AIRP can be found HERE.
Radiology residents are enrolled into this course during their third year (PGY-4) and are provided with a $2,500 stipend to attend the course.
