James L. Mayo, MD, is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, specializing in microsurgery reconstruction of the breast, head and neck, and extremities, as well as general reconstruction. Dr. Mayo received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed a plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at Louisiana State University followed by a reconstructive microsurgery fellowship at New York University.

With a rich background in complex reconstruction, Dr. Mayo specialized in all types of free flap breast reconstruction, including the abdominally based DIEP flap as well as thigh-based and gluteal free flaps. Dr. Mayo will also selectively combine or stack flaps to provide the optimal volume for an aesthetic reconstruction. While also offering implant-based reconstruction, Dr. Mayo has all of the tools and resources to provide patient-specific breast reconstruction.

Dr. Mayo has worked alongside pioneers in the field of reconstructive microsurgery and is known as an expert in the areas of breast and head and neck reconstruction.
