A Pediatric Cardiology Team With Heart Hospitals That Feel Like Home
- Pre- and Postnatal Cardiac Diagnostic Tests and Imaging
-
As a parent, you know: You need answers now. It’s why AdventHealth has invested in the fastest, most-accurate child cardiology diagnostic tests and imaging technology in the industry, so you have access to same-day test results as often as possible. Your child's heart care specialist will approach every visit and every test with patience, child-friendly techniques, and little details that make a big impact in your child's comfort level, whether it’s showing them a cool gadget or telling a funny story to take their mind off their test or screening.
We’re equipped with the latest in testing, imaging, and minimally invasive diagnostic technology across our full-service labs, imaging centers, and pediatric cardiac-care programs:
- Echocardiogram. This test uses ultrasound waves to help the cardiologist visualize your child’s heart anatomy and function. It can identify many abnormalities in the heart, such as a hole or abnormalities in the chambers or valves.
- Electrocardiogram (EKG). This painless test tracks the electrical activity produced by the heart, helping detect cardiac chamber enlargement and abnormal rhythms.
- Event Monitoring. It’s happened to us all — you go to the doctor for specific symptoms, but those symptoms aren’t present on the day you visit the physician. In these cases, your pediatric cardiologist may recommend that the heart be monitored for a month using a small, portable device.
- Holter Monitoring. To assess the heart’s rhythm over a 24-hour period, a monitor with five small electrodes is attached to your child’s chest to detect palpitations, irregular heartbeats, and other abnormalities of rate and rhythm.
- Prenatal Diagnostics. Using the latest advances in diagnostics, including fetal echocardiography, our prenatal diagnostics team can investigate potential problems with your child’s heart while they’re still in the womb. Our imaging team can capture images and data that will help them accurately diagnose the problem so they can develop a course of treatment.
- Stress Test. For older children, a stress test may be recommended. During this test, your child will walk, jog, or run on a treadmill while vital signs and EKG are monitored to determine how exercise affects cardiac performance.

Within the AdventHealth network of care, we’ve called in some of the best experts in the world to help us deliver the highest level of pediatric cardiac treatments possible inside hospital environments that in many areas, don't feel like hospitals at all. No matter your child's diagnosis or what kind of treatment your pediatric heart care team prescribes, you and your family will always experience the same level of person-to-person care that makes our patients stay a part of our AdventHealth community long after they leave our care. Because no two diagnoses are the same, your primary physician and pediatric cardiologist will closely monitor your child’s condition and recommend the best course of treatment, which can range from medication to pediatric cardiac surgery.
As your child grows older, they may need to transition to a cardiologist who cares for adults. Our pediatric cardiologists will be there every step of the way, making sure the transition from pediatric to adult care is a smooth one. Our children's congenital cardiologists see both pediatric and adult patients, so the team you come to know and love may be the team you trust for lifelong, expert heart care.
