Shawnee Mission Health has expanded its primary care services in southern Johnson County with the opening of Shawnee Mission Primary Care Deer Creek and welcomes three new providers to this location.
SMPC-Deer Creek, located at 6240 W. 135th Street in Overland Park, Kan., officially opened its doors on August 7th. New providers Jennifer Brown, MD, FACP; Gregory O'Donnell, MD; and Jill Soenen, APRN, AGNP-C, will join current Nurse Practitioner Kate McElderry, APRN, FNP-BC, who moved from SMPC-Lenexa to this new practice.
"As the population of southern Johnson County continues to grow, we want to improve access to primary care physicians," said the Shawnee Mission Physicians Group Chief Operating Officer Scott Woods. "This new practice will help meet the growing health care needs for this segment of our community."
SMPC-Deer Creek is open from 7 am to 6 pm on Mondays, and 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, Tuesday through Friday.
Dr. Brown is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is an internist. She completed a Bachelor of Arts, with honors, from the University of Kansas and earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where she also completed her residency. Dr. Brown previously served as a Partner at Kansas City Internal Medicine, where she also held roles as the Vice President of Technology and Quality; Vice President of Finance; Director of Laboratory; Director of Quality; and Site Lead for Comprehensive Primary Care Plus. For seven years, Dr. Brown served as Volunteer Faculty for the Department of Medicine at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where she was a preceptor for residents at their weekly continuity clinic. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Southwest Clinical Society and is a member of the American College of Physicians and Metropolitan Medical Society. At SMPC-Deer Creek, Dr. Brown sees adult patients.
Dr. O'Donnell is certified by the American Board of Family Physicians and American Medical Directors Association. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Creighton University before obtaining a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. He completed his residency at Baptist Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo., where he practiced family medicine. Dr. O'Donnell previously worked as primary care and occupational health physician at Cerner Population Health in Kansas City, Mo. Before working at Cerner, Dr. O'Donnell was a primary care physician at SMH as well as a former Medical Director for geriatric care. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. O'Donnell sees patients of all ages and specializes in family medicine and geriatrics.
Soenen is an Adult-Gerontological Certified Nurse Practitioner and licensed registered nurse in Kansas and Missouri. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Research College of Nursing prior to obtaining a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Kansas School of Nursing. Soenen is pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Kansas School of Nursing. She previously served as a nurse practitioner at Kansas City Internal Medicine for four years with a clinical focus on Diabetes and obesity. At SMPC-Deer Creek, Soenen sees adult patients.
McElderry is a Board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner who moved from SMPC-Lenexa to the new SMPC-Deer Creek location. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Allen College before obtaining a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Kansas School of Nursing. McElderry has been with SMH for six years and sees adult and pediatric patients ages two and older.
