Dozens of team members circled around sculptures depicting the “Healing in Bethesda” in the lobby of AdventHealth’s Altamonte Springs corporate campus on Thursday to pause and reflect on the National Day of Prayer. In person and virtually, those in attendance prayed together, read together and sang together. Prayers were lifted for doctors, nurses, frontline workers and patients, as well as for team members, communities, the nation and the world.
Variations on that scene occurred on AdventHealth campuses around the country, as leaders in the organization and from the community reverently acknowledged the annual observance that had its beginnings with a bill passed in 1952, directing the president to “set aside and proclaim a suitable day each year, other than a Sunday, as a National Day of Prayer.” It was later decided that the first Thursday in May would be that day.
Below is a sampling of the ways in which AdventHealth team members observed the day.
