Manchester Memorial Hospital (MMH) is pleased to announce that our CREATION Life volunteer and Live Life Scholarship recipient, Kyle Lewis, has the distinction of being the first individual from Clay County to become a Kentucky State HOSA Officer.
Kyle was one of the 5 students chosen by the Hospitals CREATION Life (CL) program to serve 200 hours on the PCU and receive a scholarship. The CH program also helped sponsor the vocational school students trip to the national HOSA Leadership Conference in Nashville this year, where Kyle had the opportunity to meet Vice Admiral, Vivek H. Murthy, the Surgeon General of United States of America.
Kyle is a remarkable young man and we were blessed to have him volunteer at the hospital. He not only embraced CREATION Life, but also helped the PCU team better serve our patients. With his positive attitude and serving spirit, I have no doubt that Kyle will go a long way, says Hurriyat Ghayyur, Marketing Director at Manchester Memorial Hospital (MMH).
Along with becoming the State Officer, Kyle also became the recipient of the National Geographic/Cengage Learning scholarship; the only one to be selected out a pool of 500+ applicants. He received this honor on stage in front of 7,800 people at the opening ceremony of the national HOSA Leadership Conference in Nashville on June 26.
HOSA is an international student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of ACTE. HOSA's two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people.
Now in his freshman year of college at the University of Kentucky, Kyle is a Chemical Engineering major and plans to attend medical school. In the future, Id like to return to Clay County and serve as a pediatrician, says a jubilant Kyle. Along with his peers, Kyle plans to help initiate a HOSA Chapter in the Clay County Middle School, and inspire middle schoolers to aim high and learn more. The sky is the limit; I want youngsters to know that a positive outlook and hard work can help bring about the much-needed change in our thinking. There are a lot of bright minds in our county who just need a little guidance to shine, says Kyle.
Tammy Jones, RN/MSN, Health Science Instructor and HOSA advisor, is very proud of her students accomplishments. Kyle is a superstar and serves as an example to others. He is the ideal role model that our kids need to succeed in life.
Manchester Memorial Hospital would like to congratulate both Kyle and Tammy on this outstanding achievement.
