PALM COAST, Fla., November 27, 2017 In recognition of Veterans Day, Florida Hospital Flagler staff and volunteers collected supplies for support boxes for military members serving in Afghanistan. The supplies included toiletries, snacks, books, games, and more.
In addition, on Nov. 10, hospital employees and visitors created more than 160 cards for soldiers serving abroad and donated nearly $270 for future supply purchases.
In a year when we watched the worlds hardships become truly overwhelming, the outpouring of love and kindness and deep appreciation for our brave military men and women serving so far from home was truly moving, said Eddie Goncalves, Florida Hospital Flagler director of pastoral care. This is something we look forward to doing each year. Some of our folks who wrote to soldiers last year were so grateful to receive notes of appreciation from several soldiers thanking them for their encouraging words.
The boxes and cards were given to the Soldiers Ministry at Palm Coast United Methodist Church, which has been shipping support boxes to military members overseas for nearly a decade. This effort is also supported by the Delrossa/Mystic clothing company in Bunnell, which ships all the boxes as a donation, allowing the ministry to avoid expensive shipping costs and focus on supporting the troops.
In addition, Florida Hospital Flagler turned a light in the cafeteria green throughout November as part of Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s Greenlight a Vet campaign which strives to visibly support Americas veterans.
