Carrie Peek, RN, has been named AdventHealth Gordon’s latest DAISY Award recipient. This award is part of the DAISY Foundation's program to recognize the super-human tasks nurses perform every day.
Peek, a nurse in the surgical services department at AdventHealth Gordon, received a nomination from a coworker with the following words: “Carrie is the most selfless person I have ever met. She is always willing to help people out in any way possible. She always has a smile on her face and brings so much cheer to her coworkers.
“She has the best sense of humor that keeps the morale up in our department. She buys us candy out of the blue because she thinks we need chocolate at the end of a busy day. She buys us doughnuts or Starbucks for no reason. She made name tags for her coworkers’ lockers on her own time without us asking her. She brings us flowers for the department from her mother's garden. She truly puts others needs before her own.
“She does an excellent job with patients and their families as far as keeping them informed and comfortable. She spends extra time in their room until she feels like they are well-educated and comfortable. She is an excellent teacher when she gives patients discharge instructions or easing their anxiety about surgery. She prays for us and her patients. She never sits still during her shift because she is always looking for who she can help next. She offers to stay past her shift so other nurses can go home to their families even though she has a family of her own. She buys supplies for the department with her own money because she thinks we need it. She is truly an example to us all and is a Godly woman.”
