Alan Verrill, MD, has been named president and CEO for AdventHealth South Overland Park in Overland Park, Kansas. Verrill will assume his role Oct. 19 and report to Sam Huenergardt, president/CEO for the Mid-America Region, a part of AdventHealth’s Multi-State Division.
“We’re so honored to have Dr. Verrill join the AdventHealth Mid-America Region leadership team,” said Huenergardt. “With the continued growth we’re seeing in the Kansas City market, I know Dr. Verrill’s leadership and clinical expertise will help us continue delivering faith-based, whole-person care in Bluhawk and surrounding communities.”
AdventHealth South Overland Park opened in 2017 with a 24/7 emergency department, imaging, laboratory and a medical office building offering primary care, physical therapy and physician specialties. In the fall of 2019, construction began on an 85-bed inpatient hospital that will include a new birth center, surgical services, intensive care unit, heart care and more.
In this role, Dr. Verrill will lead the day-to-day operations and overall development of the South Overland Park campus, which is expected to be complete in late 2021.
“Dr. Verrill is a servant leader who has fully embraced our mission and comes with a long history of service to others. I’m confident his unique experience as a physician will serve him well as he steps into this new role and champions our promise of wholeness in the Kansas City market,” said Randy Haffner, president/CEO for the Multi-State Division.
Dr. Verrill has served as the chief medical officer for Littleton Adventist Hospital, part of Centura Health in Littleton, Colorado, for five years. He is a board-certified internist with 25 years of experience in the hospital setting, leading in various fields such as patient care, governance and regulatory compliance. Dr. Verrill joined Littleton Adventist Hospital from Bridgton Hospital in Maine, where he served as division chief for the medical group and president over the medical staff.
“I have been privileged to work with great teams throughout my career and feel blessed to join the AdventHealth family,” said Dr. Verrill. “I look forward to engaging and growing the team as we continue to expand our mission of Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ throughout the South Overland Park community.”
Before starting his career in civilian health care, Dr. Verrill served as a major in the United States Air Force Medical Corps on active duty from 1993 to 2000. He received his undergraduate degree in biology from Atlantic Union College and his medical degree at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, completing his residency in internal medicine at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Verrill currently serves on several boards, including the Arapahoe-Douglas-Elbert Medical Society board of directors and the board of Project ReCYCLE, which gives refurbished bikes to lower income school-aged children throughout the Denver metro region.
Dr. Verrill enjoys cycling, hiking, fishing and reading. He and his wife of 30 years, Melitta, have three children in their 20s: Nathan, Allison and Griffin.
