AdventHealth Shawnee Mission Earns Five Stars in Updated CMS Quality Ratings

April 30, 2021 — AdventHealth Shawnee Mission again earned five stars from The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings for April 2021. AdventHealth Shawnee Mission is one of only six hospitals in Kansas to earn the highest possible rating, and one of 455 hospitals out of the more than 4,500 U.S. hospitals surveyed.

The Overall Hospital Quality Star rating (overall star rating) summarizes a variety of measures across five areas of quality into a single star rating for each hospital. The overall hospital rating for 2021 is based on five measures: Mortality, Safety of Care, Readmission, Patient Experience and Timely & Effective Care.

“In April 2021, AdventHealth Shawnee Mission earned another five-star CMS rating, our 16^th consecutive Leapfrog Grade A rating and was named to IBM Watson Health’s Top 100 Hospitals List,” said Larry Botts, MD, Chief Medical Officer for AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. “Each individual distinction speaks for itself, but to earn these three quality recognitions is a testament to our nurses, physicians and team members and the whole-person care they provide to our patients.”

CMS first revealed an overall star rating for hospitals in July 2016. The rating allows consumers to compare individual hospitals to others locally and nationwide. While patients are encouraged to seek the nearest hospital in case of an emergency, Hospital Compare provides a place for those who can plan for their care to research their options.

AdventHealth Shawnee Mission’s score includes data from AdventHealth College Boulevard, AdventHealth Lenexa and AdventHealth South Overland Park.
