The AdventHealth Central Florida Division recently hosted the Florida Medical Association (FMA) for a tour of the nation’s largest hospital system command center called Mission Control, which will be featured in an upcoming FMA video.
Relying on data that is updated every three to five seconds, the 12,000 square-foot, high-tech command center combines a complex blend of real-time data to forecast capacity across 18 emergency departments, including 11 hospitals, and track every patient – anywhere between 2,400 and 2,600 patients on a given day.
“I’m impressed by how AdventHealth Mission Control not only manages the clinical aspects of patient care, but it also encompasses the non-clinical components, such as environmental services, nutrition, and transportation,” said Joshua Lenchus, D.O. the Florida Medical Association president. “Each of these play a vital role in moving patients efficiently through the hospital system.”
Sanjay Pattani, MD, emergency medicine physician and associate chief medical officer of AdventHealth Mission Control, expanded on that concept and noted that Mission Control has also improved quality of care as patients who are admitted from the ER now get a hospital bed faster and shortened interhospital transfer transport times.
