Specialized Arrhythmia Care Here for Every Heartbeat
Your heartbeat is the truest expression of all your moods — it flutters, pounds, and races when you’re feeling excited or emotional. But sometimes, a flutter can be a sign of something more serious. Arrhythmia conditions like atrial fibrillation (AFib) can cause your heart to beat irregularly or improperly, leading to problems with blood flow and increasing your risk of stroke. At AdventHealth Tampa, formerly Florida Hospital Tampa, our Heart Rhythm Center offers advanced monitoring and treatment options to steady your heart rate and prevent complications. With a range of arrhythmia treatment options for better cardiac health including pacemakers, the WATCHMANTM and the updated WATCHMAN FLXTM devices, we’re here to give highly specialized care — straight from our heart to yours.
We’re here to help you find the right physician or a location that’s convenient for you.
Keeping You Free From Heart Health Complications Freeing You to Live With Confidence
- Analyzing Your Heart Health With an Electrocardiogram
-
You need to know if that heart flutter is simply a sign of stress or something you’ll want to keep an eye on. The cardiologists at AdventHealth Tampa, formerly Florida Hospital Tampa, can answer this question for you. To determine whether or not you have atrial fibrillation (AFib), your physician will perform an electrocardiogram (often called an ECG or EKG), attaching electrodes to your chest in order to record your heart’s electrical activity. This short, two-minute test allows us to find any abnormalities in the way your heart functions.
Depending on the results of your electrocardiogram, your physician may suggest using monitoring devices like a Holter monitor, a loop recorder, or an event recorder, so that we can gain a more complete picture of your heart health. We'll do what we can to make the monitoring process as convenient as possible for you, and we’ll always be here to address your concerns and answer any questions you have along the way.
- Learning About Atrial Fibrillation
-
Heart arrhythmias — conditions that cause the heart to beat irregularly — are common, but if you don’t know much about them, that’s nothing to worry about. That’s why our cardiologists are here. Our Heart Rhythm Center staff have vast experience and a high level of expertise. We’re well-equipped to handle the most common arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation occurs when the heart’s electrical charges malfunction, causing the heart’s upper chambers to beat out of sync with its lower chambers. While atrial fibrillation itself isn’t dangerous, it can increase your risk of blood clots and stroke.
If you’re diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (or AFib, as it’s commonly known), our Tampa hospital team will help you set good prevention measures in place that will decrease your risk of blood clots and stroke and increase your ability to live confidently with AFib.
- Protecting Your Heart Health
-
You won’t have to go far to find excellent cardiovascular care. In our Heart Rhythm Center, we offer several leading techniques and treatments to regulate your heartbeat and prevent complications. One option we offer is the WATCHMAN FLXTM Left Atrial Appendage Closure, a heart regulator that helps prevent stroke. Other treatments for AFib include:
- Ablation – A procedure that reroutes electrical currents to the heart.
- Heart Surgery
- Medication (such as Anticoagulants)
- Pacemakers
Most cases of AFib are mild, which means you may only need medication or a simple monitoring device like a pacemaker. Whatever you need, you can count on us to guide and support you — caring for your body, easing your mind, and lifting your spirit from one heartbeat to the next. For more information specifically about our WATCHMAN FLX program, contact our WATCHMAN care coordinator at 813-55-HEART or Call813-554-3278 and press extension 2.
