Welcome to AdventHealth for Children’s PGY-2 Pediatric Pharmacy Specialty Residency Program! Our residency program offers two full-time, 12-month positions with an intensive curriculum accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). The purpose of our residency program is to provide residents with a learning environment that will enhance critical thinking skills, facilitate independent practice, and foster leadership skills necessary to provide specialized, patient-focused care for pediatric patients. It is our goal to help residents optimize drug therapy to improve patient outcomes and ultimately become confident Pediatric Clinical Specialists on a multidisciplinary health care team.
AdventHealth for Children is a 247-bed acute care teaching hospital, including a 102-bed Level IV NICU, 22-bed Level I PICU, 12-bed Hematology/Oncology Unit, 6-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, 8-bed Cellular Therapy Unit, 50-bed General Medical/Surgical Unit, 16-bed Procedural Sedation Unit, 15-bed CVICU, 16-bed ED and Central Florida’s only Pediatric Renal Transplant and Liver Transplant programs.
AdventHealth for Children received a $10 million contribution in 2007 from Walt Disney World towards an expansion project which was completed in early 2011. AdventHealth for Children is also a recipient of Disney’s Team of Heroes philanthropic outreach program which delivers comfort and inspiration to families with children facing serious illness by reimagining the patient and family experience in children’s hospitals.
AdventHealth for Children serves as a major tertiary facility in Orlando, Florida, and is affiliated with seven AdventHealth campuses for adult patients in Central Florida, including Level II NICUs and Pediatric EDs. Our Mission
At AdventHealth for Children, the primary mission of the Department of Pharmacy is to provide quality pharmaceutical care to improve the patient's quality of life while providing support for caregivers. Provide drug information and education to physicians, nurses, patients, and other ancillary staff

Team members on core patient care committees for the development of evidence-based guidelines

Program Description
The PGY-2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residents at AdventHealth for Children are provided with opportunities to function independently as practitioners in a variety of pediatric patient care settings. Through integration of accumulated experiences and knowledge, residents will focus on the provision of patient care that improves medication therapy. Residents who successfully complete our residency program will attain the skills and competencies that qualify them for a clinical pharmacist position and will be eligible to sit for pediatric board certification.
PGY-2 Program Purpose
PGY-2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY-1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY-2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY-2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.

Residents may select 4 elective rotations of their choice. *Note: Any required clinical learning experience may be repeated as an elective. Additional elective learning experiences may be developed based on resident interest and preceptor availability. Options for elective rotations include the following:
Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
Pediatric Cellular Therapy
Pediatric Gastroenterology
Pediatric Pharmacy Administration
Pediatric Emergency Medicine
Pediatric Infectious Diseases
Precepting, Ad Hoc (evaluation for layered learning opportunities)
Longitudinal Experiences
Coordinated Care for Kids Clinic (CCK), 10 months (4 hours schedule every other week)
Drug Distribution and Operations, 12 months (8 hour shifts every 3rd weekend)
Pediatric Research Project, 12 months*
Pediatric Medication Use Evaluation, 9 months*
Pediatric Continuing Education, 6 months*
*Residents will have the opportunity to take at least one dedicated project day per rotation to focus on longitudinal experiences such as Pediatric Research Project, Pediatric Continuing Education and Pediatric Medication Use Evaluation.
