Dr. Gabriel Gonzales-Portillo, MD, FAANS, FACS is an accomplished board-certified neurosurgeon with an impressive background in minimally invasive brain and spine surgery, complemented by robotic surgery. Fluent in both Spanish and English, he has been serving the Tampa region for nearly two decades.
With a heritage spanning four generations of physicians, Dr. Gonzales-Portillo approaches each patient with the same level of care and attention he would offer to his own family members.
Dr. Gonzales-Portillo earned his medical degree from Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Peru. At the University of Illinois Chicago, he completed his internship and residencies in general and neurological surgery. He completed his cerebrovascular/skull base surgery fellowship at the University of Miami. Today, he is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
Throughout his career, Dr. Gonzales-Portillo has received many awards — including Patient’s Choice Awards — and is a recognized speaker, giving many lectures and grand rounds presentations. He has also been published in peer-reviewed medical journals and has authored medical textbook chapters. He is a member of multiple professional organizations, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.
When he’s out of the office, Dr. Gonzales-Portillo enjoys golfing, spending quality time with his family and vacationing at the beach. Ceviche is his favorite dish, and a cortado is his coffee of choice.
