Twin brothers at AdventHealth pursue their health care dream together
WINTER GARDEN, Fla. - For Franco and Felix Valverde, growing up as identical twins meant more than just sharing a birthday—it meant sharing an unshakable bond. Their connection is evident in the way they look at each other, finish each other’s sentences, and speak of one another with admiration.
“Felix is my best friend, without a doubt,” says Franco Valverde, a patient transporter at AdventHealth Apopka. “Our friendship is built in. It’s not even a question.”
National Twin Day, celebrated annually on Dec. 18, honors the unique relationships between twins. At AdventHealth, the Valverde brothers bring that special bond to life in their shared dedication to patient care. Working in the same department, patient transportation, Franco is based at AdventHealth Apopka, while Felix serves as a senior patient transporter at AdventHealth Winter Garden.

Their inspiration to pursue careers in health care comes from their mother, Wendy Still-Valverde, an assistant nurse manager at AdventHealth Apopka.
“I’ve always admired nursing because I love direct patient care,” says Felix Valverde. “I enjoy being in a position where I can support others. No one ever wants to be in the hospital, and sometimes all they need is a little interaction and compassion to feel comfortable.”
Now, both brothers are taking the next step in their health care journey. They’re completing their prerequisites at Valencia College, with plans to apply to nursing school — together, of course. Their goal is to start nursing school next year, continuing to support one another every step of the way.
While they work at different campuses, their identical appearances often lead to amusing mix-ups. “We don’t switch campuses,” said Franco, while laughing. “But sometimes team members will think I’m Felix if they’ve picked up a shift at AdventHealth Winter Garden. If I feel like playing along, I’ll just say, ‘Hey, how are you?’”
Even patients get confused. “Sometimes patients will say, ‘Oh, you work here too?’ and I’ll tell them, ‘No, that’s my twin,’” Felix shares with a smile.
The Valverde brothers’ story is one of family, friendship, and a shared commitment to making a difference.
“Several team members from both campuses have shared with me how kind and polite Franco and Felix are,” said Wendy Still-Valverde. “As you can imagine, like any parent, I’m always bursting with pride and joy when I hear these compliments about my children.”
